We start our design process by questioning how best we may bring light and air into spaces. Our tropical climate is characterised by an abundance of rain, sun and heat. We take into consideration the design of sun-shading elements and openings for cross ventilation. Employing a modern design language, our architects design buildings that relate to their surroundings and context to achieve a balance between architecture and the tropics. We design the thresholds between the indoor and outdoor space to blur the boundaries between inside and outside. We do this to maximise natural ventilation and natural light throughout the built environment. By designing in section, READ Architecture designs volumetrically in 3D to incorporate voids and double or triple volume spaces. We do space planning in 2D and use circulation to weave the spaces of the house together.
